When you think of Kansas City what comes to mind? BBQ? The Kansas City Chiefs? I’m sure you don’t think about Kansas City having some of the best wineries in the U.S. There are some 100 local wineries open and producing wines in both Missouri and Kansas. Kansas City has a rich wine history dating back to the late 1800s that is still evident today. In this blog, we have some of the best wineries Kansas City has to offer for a day or night out. Or you can pick up a bottle and enjoy it in the comfort of your own home. We have also some locally owned charcuterie businesses to pair with your newly purchased wines!

Stonehaus Farms Vineyard & Winery

Location: 24607 NE Colbern Rd, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086
Hours: Wed-Sun 12:00 PM to 6:00PM (Open until 8:00 PM on Thursdays) Closed Monday and Tuesday

The Stonehaus Farms Winery was founded and continues to grow as a family owned and operated business since 1996. They have always had a interest in viticulture and the art of winemaking, and this shows in their large selection of award-winning estate wines that they produce form grapes they grow on property. Here you can enjoy beautiful vineyards and when you are done you can make your way to the tasting room for some samples. The Stonehaus Farms Vineyard and Winery also a popular location for weddings and offers two different facilities to cater to wedding parties of all sizes. KC Wine Co

Hours: Friday 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Saturday 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Want to try somewhere unique? The KC Wine Co. Barrel Room truly catches your eye. This space can host 100 people and was created to look like an actual barrel from the inside and out. The owners Kirk and Julie Berggren decided to use land that was put aside for a pumpkin patch into a winery. Their daughter Taylor was the deciding factor in this when she offered to operate the day-to-day business. The winemaker on site, Austin Wahaus, produces eight wines made from local grape varieties, as well as a traditional and spiced cider. KC Wine Co doesn’t just have great spirits but also hosts a slue of events. Their packed event calendar includes live music and food trucks, festivals like Cider Fest, OKCtober Fest, Sunflower Festival, Mutts & Merlot, Craft Nights and much more. The also have space for weddings, parties, company outings or other special events. Also check out the KC Pumpkin Patch on location during the fall season.

Rowe Ridge Vineyard & Winery

Location: 11255 Leavenworth Road Kansas City, KS 66109
Hours: Thur-Sun 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM (Additional hours are available by appointment)

Rowe Ridge Vineyard and Winery is the first vineyard to be opened in Wyandotte County. The vineyard is family owned and operated by Marc and Pamela Rowe located just north of the Kansas Speedway and the Legends Outlets, where they planted their first grapes in 2005 and began bottling in 2007. From the start they have since grow to have eight different varieties of grapes, which are used to make white, red and fruit wines with. All of these wines can be sampled and purchase at their tasting rooms. The tasting room can be found just around the back of the Rowe’s private residence and surrounded by grapevine and features their entire selection of wine.

Amigoni Urban Winery

Location: 1505 Genessee St Ste 100, Kansas City, MO 64102
Hours: Tue-Thru 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Friday 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Saturday 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Sunday Noon to 5:00 PM

Amigoni Urban Winery produces small lots of dry handcrafted wine in the Stockyards District of Kansas City’s Historic West Bottoms. They focus on traditional European grape varieties, like Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Viognier, while experimenting with some lesser known varieties. The tasting room is where you will taste five different samples for $15 and tour the historic building, the Daily Drover Telegram Newspaper building, built in 1909. Come and try the wines, or enjoy a glass or bottle and visit the barrel room where they age the wines. You can also sit on the patio and have your wine or a local beer. Their tasting room and barrel room are also available for event rental after house, either together or separately.

KC Wineworks

Location: 1829 McGee Street, Kansas City, MO 64108
Hours: Wed-Thur 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Fri-Sat 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM (Last call for tastings, food, and drinks is 1 hour prior to close.)

Like Amigoni above, KC Wineworks is also considered an urban winery, which means that they have no vineyard. Their grapes are 100% Missouri grown. They are located in the Crossroads area of KC along with their tasting room. They hold Wine and Cheese night every Thursday where you can enjoy a flight of 3 wines and 3 cheese for just $15. Somerset Ridge Vineyard and Winery

Location: 29725 Somerset Rd. Paola, KS 66071 (winery location)
Hours: Wed-Sat 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Sunday 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM

The owners of Somerset Ridge, the married couple Dennis and Cindy Reynolds, planted local grapes on their farmland, and today they grow more than 13 different varieties. They have award wining wines under their belt ranging from dry to semi-sweet, even dessert wines. At Somerset Ridge, it is something almost out of a book. The gorgeous red barn serves as the tasting room so that guests can take a walk through the vineyards, taste their wines, and even make a purchase. Some of the events that can be found here include live music, art shows, and a host of other events during pleasant weather, with loads of outdoor seating. Did we mention that Somerset is dog friendly? Dogs are welcome (leashed of course) all year-round. The winery also has it’s own dog ambassador, Fluffy, who walks around and greets guests. Pirtle Winery

Hours: Mon-Thur 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Fri-Sat 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Sunday 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Located in the heart of the historic Weston, MO, Scott and Ross Pirtle are the co-owners of this unique family winery. Opened in 1978, it has come to be known for its award-winning wines from the locally grown Missouri grapes and other local fruits. What sets them apart from other wineries is their production of Mead. Now what it Mead? Mead is a honey wine and is the oldest alcoholic drink know the man. It is made simply from water, yeast, and honey. This has been gaining popularity over the years. The Pirtle Winery is set in the former Lutheran Evangelical Church that was built by German immigrants in 1867 and is listed on the National Register of Historical Place. This historic location should be enough to have you making a trip and taking a sip of their fine wine!

Belvoir Winery

This might be the spookiest winery on our list! For those that seek out the paranormal, the Belvoir Winery is the perfect place for you. Belvoir was even on an episode of Syfy Channel’s Ghost Hunters. The Belvoir Winery completed its construction in 1900. It was the home of the Order of Odd Fellows, a fraternity order partially known for their bizarre initiation ritual that included candle light and a human skeleton. Not only do they capitalize on their bizarre history with their Murder Mystery Dinners or Paranormal Investigations but they also sell a specialty bottle of wine they call “Boo’s”. They will also allow you to walk by the old hospital, morgue, and cemetery.

Who doesn’t love a cheese board or some fruit to go with their wine? We have put together some local businesses that specialize in charcuterie boards, boxes, and grazing tables! Planning a large event or small get together? Even if you’re not drinking wine, Charcuterie boards are the perfect solution to feed any size group. Behind Graze & Gather KC is Lena Jones. Her determination to create a unique charcuterie experience for each and everyone of her clients is what drives her. The owner of Cheese the Day KC, Morgan Loggins, created her charcuterie board business during the pandemic after much encouragement from friends and family. Before becoming a small business owner, she was previously a television anchor and reporter (talk about the jack of all trades!). She has since fallen in love with creating and elevating the experiences of her customers.
