Haunted Houses in Kansas City

The Beast

Location: 1401 W 13th Street, Kansas City, MO 64102
Hours: Opening weekend is Sept 16th and 17th. Open until Nov 5th. Open in the evenings starting at 7:30 p.m. and closes when the fog lifts on the Werewolf Forest.

Located in the West Bottoms’, The Beast is one of Kansas City’s most established and frightening haunted houses. The Beast has been constantly rated one of the best haunted houses in the country. This four floor haunt will have you make your way through several terror-filled settings. These include a Louisiana mansion and swamp, Jack the Rippers’ foggy London, a medieval castle and even a forest filled with werewolves.

The Edge of Hell

Location: 1300 W 12th St, Kansas City, MO 64102
Hours: Opening weekend is Sept 16th and 17th. Open until Nov 5th. Open in the evenings starting at 7:30 p.m. and closes when Hell freezes over.

Running for over 4 decades, The Edge of Hell located in the West Bottoms’ is considered the Granddaddy of haunts. The Edge of Hell features a five-story fright that shows heaven to hell. They have everything from playing at your phobias to the world’s largest living snake in captivity. Come and be ushered in by the famous Rat Man and a slew of other cast members ready to scare you to death!

Macabre Cinema Haunted House

Location: 1222 W 12th St, Kansas City, MO 64101
Hours: Opens Sept 23rd through Nov 5th.

The Macabre Cinema is set throughout a haunted 1930’s movie theatre and features 4 floors of thrills. Here you will experience the action of classic and contemporary horror scenes. There is no movie watching at this haunt, but it will keep you on your toes. To add more authenticity, portions of actual movie sets are included in this haunted spot including The Mummy and Hellraiser. You can even take a ride down the 4 story bat pole if you’re brave enough!

EXILED Trail of Terrors

Location: 12829 Loring Rd, Bonner Springs, KS 66012
Hours: Opens Sept 30th until Oct 29th. Open every Friday and Saturday night from 7:30 to Midnight.

The Exiled KC is a haunted outdoor trail. At this haunt you will walk through trails while trying to escape the things that go bump in the night. Make sure to dress accordingly as you will be outdoors; you might get sweaty, dirty, climb hills, bend, and maneuver through obstacles. This haunt is for those aged 12 and up. There are no flashlights, phone lights, or photography allowed.

Worlds of Fun Halloween Haunt

Location: 4545 Worlds of fun Ave, Kansas City, MO
Hours: Select nights Sept 16th through Oct 29th. The frightening starts after 6:30. (Not recommended for those under 14)

The Worlds of Fun Halloween Haunt features 13 extreme haunts, more than 500 monsters. spooky shows, and chilling rides.

Basement KC Escape Room

Location: 1600 W 8th St, Kansas City, MO 64101
Hours: Mon-Wed: Closed | Thurs: 5pm-10pm | Fri: 5pm-12pm | Sat: 2pm-12pm | Sun: 2pm-11pm

The Basement is America’s top rated Escape Room and is now located in Kansas City. Working as a team you will interact with trained live actors to collect clues and solve puzzles as you try to escape the manor of Edward Tandy. The Basement KC features two different escape rooms that are considered to be two of the top escape rooms in the country. The story of The Basement is that you have been captured by Edward Tandy and he has locked you in his deceased mother’s basement. Here he has put together a sort of game to determine who amongst you is worth living. In the second escape room, The Study, you have survived Edward’s basement and have broken into his personal study. However, this is no longer a game, and you must escape his actual house before the clock runs out!

The Sallie House

Location: 508 N 2nd Street, Atchison, KS
Hours: 1 hour self guided tours are Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Pricing: 1 hour self guided tours $20 (By Appointment only and any day expect Sat/Sun). Stay overnight with a 2 person minimum starting at $125 per person. Purchase tickets here!

Location in the small charming town of Atchison, Kansas there lies a home that is considered one of the most haunted houses in the state. The home was once occupied by a doctor and his family, with the doctor operating his practice on the bottom floor of the home, from exams to an operation table. The most famous patient however was a 6 year old named Sallie, whose spirit is said to have never left. After the death of little Sallie, it is said that the home became extremely ominous. Fires would randomly break out in the home and soon the husband became the target for regulars attacks from a sinister specter. It would leave marks on his chest and abdomen. Eventually the family would cut its ties and leave the home behind. This home would then become the scene for several shows on networks like A&E, The Travel Channel, The Discovery Channel, and SyFy.

Glore Psychiatric Museum

Location: 3406 Frederick Ave, St Joseph, MO 64506
Hours: Open daily 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (except for major holidays)
Pricing: One admission price allows you into all four museums on site. Adults $10, Seniors $8, Students $7, Children 4-6 $2, Children under 3 are Free. Purchase tickets on site. Tours take around 1.5 hours.

The Glore Psychiatric Museum was once a former psychiatric hospital known as the State Lunatic Asylum No.2 and while this museum may not actually be haunted it still is just as hair raising! In this museum you will get a look at what it was like to be treated in the asylum while also seeing notes, paintings, clothing that was once warn by patients and caretakers. There are exhibits in the museum that allow you to see that real-life horrors that occurred from things that patients had swallowed to mannequins that demonstrate the procedures that some patients were subjected to. All of these things make for a truly unnerving visit.
