Labor Day Events in Kansas City

Labor Day gives us the opportunity to recognize the hard working men and women in our nation. These hard working people need to have some fun too! Take advantage of the three day weekend and check out some of these events around Kansas City! 

De Soto Days Festival

Location: Downtown De Soto, KS 
Dates: September 1st-4th 
Tickets: Purchase wristbands on site for the day. *Cash only but there is an ATM onsite*

Come and enjoy the 58th Annual De Soto Days Festival for all kinds of entertainment, carnival rides, vendors, and tons of great food! The festivities start off at 10:00 am with the De Soto Days Parade. There is also a Car Cruise and a dog walk! 

Kansas City Irish Fest

Location: Crown Center
Dates: September 2nd-4th
Tickets: Single day tickets are available throughout the weekend. Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate. $35 (1 day ticket), $70 (weekend). *Children under 3 are free*


The Kansas City Irish Fest is celebrating their 20th year! There is no better way to celebrate your Celtic Pride than joining in on 20 bands on seven different stages, heritage workshops and displays, comedy shows, genealogy, a massive children’s area and so much more! The Kansas City Irish Fest is dedicated to promoting the culture, music, character and history of Ireland and of the Irish people who call Kansas City home. 

Kansas City Renaissance Festival 

Location: 633 N 130th Street Bonner Springs, KS 66012
Dates: Open Saturday & Sunday, 10am-7pm 
Tickets: General Admission $20.95 (adult), $12.50 (child 5-12), $18.25 (senior) *Children 4 and under free. See website for additional tickets and packages*

The start of the holiday weekend also brings the start to the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. Located in Bonner Springs you can come and immerse yourself in medieval garb at this annual celebration. Enjoy daily jousts, the marketplace, faire food, family-friendly activities, and some imaginative entertainment! 


Kansas City Zoo

Location: 6800 Zoo Drive Kansas City, MO 64132
Hours: Mon-Fri 9:30am-4pm, Sat-Sun 9:30am-5pm
Tickets: General Admission Tickets $17 – $20 *Children 2 and under Free*

A special nighttime experience at the KC Zoo opens on September 1st! This experience is all about GloWild and features illuminated steel and silk works of art that portray animals, local landmarks and more. Come and enjoy a new way to light up your Labor Day weekend. 

Santa-Cali-Gon Days

Location: Independence Square
Dates: September 2nd-5th
Tickets: The festival itself is free but tickets for the carnival can be purchased online. 

Located in Independence Square the Santa-Cali-Gon Days festival is a historic-inspired festival fill with loads of entertainment. The first Santa-Cali-Gon Days festival was held in 1940 to celebrate the unique heritage of the City of Independence as the starting point of the Santa Fe, California, and the Oregon Trails. It has grown into a live music show that demonstrate life in 1849 and attractions ranging from a beer garden to a cornhole competition.
