November Activities in Kansas City

Fall is in full swing and there are still plenty of November activities in Kansas City to experience! Not only are there events throughout all of November related to fall and Thanksgiving but it is also the start of the Holiday Season. In this post, we have listed family events related to the end of the fall season, Thanksgiving Day and weekend events, as well as Holiday light displays starting at the end of the month.

November Events

Crown Center Ice Terrace (2022-2023 Season)

Date: Opening day November 4th through March 12th
Location: Crown Center Square, Crown Center 2405 Grand Blvd. Ste 200, Kansas City, MO 64108
Times: November, December, and January Sun-Thur 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM, Fri & Sat 10:00 AM – 11:00 PM
Admission: Adults and Children (4 and Under) $8, Children under 4 are FREE with paid admission, Skate Rental $5, Season Pass $120

Opening for its 50th season, Crown Center Ice Terrace is Kansas City’s original outdoor skating rink located in Crown Center Square. Fun for all ages and for those who do or don’t know how to skate! On opening day November 4th from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM, enjoy FREE skating, coffee, and hot chocolate to ring in the season.

Create a Gingerbread House at Taste Bud’s Kitchen Cooking Class

Taste Bud’s Kitchen strives to support kids, families, and food while creating a lifestyle around connecting, learning, and growing in the culinary playground of the kitchen. During November, you and your family can take classes in Cinnamon Rolls, Turkey Cupcakes, Mini-Chef Camp, and French Patisseries.

Though nothing compares to the Gingerbread House making that is fun for the whole family. On November 26th through November 28th you and yours can decorate a gingerbread house with tons of toppings like pretzels, candy, frosting, and much more. There will also be hot chocolate to drink while you create. Get into the holiday spirit with this family-friendly activity!

Winter Magic KC Drive Thru Holiday Lights Display

Date: November 3rd – January 1st, 2023
Location: 1800 Cliff Drive Kansas City, MO 64106
Times: Sun-Thur 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Fri-Sat 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Times change during holidays to extend to 10:00 PM.

Winter Magic is a drive-thru Christmas party! This drive thru display features the Midwest’s longest animated light tunnel, 200ft! On your day of arrival, you’ll cruise Historic Cliff Drive in Kessler Park, Downtown (Kansas City’s first park!) which they’ve transformed into a modern holiday light experience. The drive is one-mile-long and completely adorned with game-changing holiday light displays. Santa Claus also greets you every Saturday 6 – 10 pm (excluding Nov. 20th), so do not forget to bring your Christmas letters to drop off! The proceeds benefit Children’s Mercy Hospital this year.

Thanksgiving Day Events

Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K Run and Walk

Date: Thursday, November 24th
Location: Start/Finish Line – Berkley Riverfront Park 1298 River Front Dr. Kansas City, MO 64120
Times: Kids Dash 8:15 AM, 5K 8:30 AM (Course Time Limits 5K 1 hour 20 minutes)

The Kansas City Turkey Trot this year will be around the beautiful Berkley Riverfront Park you can see the course map here. Upon your completion of the race, a Donut King Donut is waiting for you at the finish line. The proceeds for the event go to the Best Buddies charity that offers One-to-One Friendship and Leadership programs for individuals with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Missouri. Ward Parkway Thanksgiving Day 10K & 5K

Date: Thursday, November 24th

Times: Tiny Turkey Trot 8:20 (All Tiny Trotters will receive a special race shirt finisher medal, goodie bag, and a mini pie!), 10K 8:35 AM, 5K 9:00 AM (All 5K/10K Runners will receive a long sleeve thermal shirt, 6″ Pie, and Race Bib), 1 Mile Walk 9:10 AM (All Walkers will receive a long sleeve thermal shirt, 6″ Pie, Race Bib)

Don your turkey hat, pose for pics and earn your pumpkin pie by running along beautiful Ward Parkway! The Ward Parkway Run is partnered with Harvesters-Community Food Network and will have food collection bins are all packet pickups and on race morning,

93rd Evergy Plaza Lighting Ceremony

Date: Thursday, November 24th
Location: Country Club Plaza 41st and Wyandotte, Kansas City, MO
Time: 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Admission: This event is FREE to all those who wish to attend!

Come and visit this annual event at the Country Club Plaza. The Plaza Lighting Ceremony presented by Evergy is a can’t miss event. The lights start the holiday season off in Kansas City on Thanksgiving Day.

Thanksgiving Weekend Events

Visit Santa Thanksgiving Weekend at Crown Center

Santa’s Arrival at Crown Center

Date: Friday, November 25th
Location: Crown Center Atrium, Crown Center 2405 Grand Blvd. Ste 200, Kansas City, MO 64108
Time: 10:00 AM (The event will last around 15 minutes)
Admission: This event is FREE to all those who wish to attend!

Santa Claus arrives at Crown Center! Come welcome Santa as he arrive in a horse-drawn carriage to kick off the holiday season. Watch him make his way to Santa’s Gingerbread Station, where he will stay through December 24th.

Santa’s Gingerbread Station

Date: Friday, November 25th through December 24th
Location: Crown Center Shops Level 1, Crown Center 2405 Grand Blvd. Ste 200, Kansas City, MO 64108
Time: Mon-Sat 10:00 am to 7:00 PM, Sunday Noon to 5:00 PM, December 24th 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Admission: This event is FREE to all those who wish to attend!

After his arrival, Santa Claus will welcome the public throughout the holiday season for visits. wish lists, and even photos! A photographer will be on-site to take photos for a fee, or you may take your own. The photo packages start at $12. *Please note that the Gingerbread Village will not be a part of Santa’s Gingerbread Station this year.*

Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting

Date: Friday, November 25th
Location: Crown Center Square, Crown Center 2405 Grand Blvd. Ste 200, Kansas City, MO 64108
Time: 5:30 PM (This event will last around 1 hour)
Admission: This event is FREE to all those who wish to attend!

One of the Nation’s tallest trees, the 100-foot-tall Mayor’s Christmas Tree, is the centerpiece for the holiday celebration held at Crown Center. For this event, Kansas City’s Mayor Quinton Lucas and a special guest will flip the switch to light the tree on November 25th. This tree is the symbol of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, which is dedicated to assisting the people of Kansas City during the holiday season. The tree will be shining brightly in Crown Center Square from November 25th, 2022 through January 2nd, 2023.

Come see the 100 ft tall Mayor’s Christmas Tree be lit up the day after Thanksgiving.
